Microneedling

In recent years there has been a lot of excitement about microneedling, a minimally invasive corrective skin procedure that helps reduce visible signs of aging. For many people microneedling is a great treatment option to improve the overall appearance of the skin through the increase of elastin and collagen production. This results in fresher and younger-looking skin.

Microneedling has been utilized with success to improve the following conditions:

  • Acne Scars
  • Crepe-like wrinkles
  • Fine Lines
  • Large pores
  • Scars
  • Skin Tone
  • Stretch marks

How Does Microneedling Work?

Microneedling is a treatment in which an electric needling device safely and gently penetrates the skin on a microscopic level. This increases the rate of collagen and elastin protein production. This process promotes rejuvenation and growth of skin cells, filling unwanted wrinkles, fine lines, sun spots, scars, and other mild skin imperfections.

Microneedling creates microchannels in the skin tissue. These microchannels allow for deeper absorption of topical creams and serums into the skin layers. The deeper the absorption, the more effective the treatment, especially for moderate and harsh skin issues.

While commonly used to treat the face and neck, microneedling can be used on many other areas of the body, including the back, chest, and hands.

What to Expect During Microneedling

Before we begin the treatment, we will prepare your skin. A topical numbing cream will be applied to the target areas to aid in your comfort.

A handheld device will then be passed over the skin, creating microscopic channels. This will trigger a healing response in your skin tissues, creating new collagen and elastin over the course of the next four to six months.

Most patients have multiple sessions done for maximum rejuvenation. It is wise for you to space treatments a few weeks apart. If you’re coming in to treat a scar, more sessions may be needed depending on the severity of the issue.

Post-Treatment Expectations

After the treatment is done, you can expect redness and sensitivity in the treated region. The skin will look and feel tighter, creating a more youthful appearance. Sensitivity and redness usually begins to dissipate within a few hours and will be completely gone within a couple days.

Advantages of Microneedling

Microneedling is a popular and effective procedure that offers a number of benefits:

  • Outpatient procedure
  • Requires little to no recovery time
  • Mild to moderate discomfort
  • Typically does not create any post-surgical marks
  • Relatively inexpensive (as compared to many laser procedures)

Am I a Good Candidate?

Microneedling is suitable for the majority of candidates. The procedure is safe for all skin types (oily, dry, and combo) and is an excellent choice if your skin is sensitive to other types of procedures. It is suitable for sensitive areas of the body, such as your face, neck, and hands.

To find out if this treatment option is right for you, schedule a consultation and we can determine your suitability during a thorough evaluation.

Take the Next Step

Microneedling can rejuvenate and revitalize your skin for a more beautiful and youthful look. If you have skin imperfections that you would like to address, we suggest that you arrange a consultation.

During your consultation, we’ll help you to determine if microneedling would be a beneficial option to help you achieve your goals…or if perhaps there is another treatment that is more suitable for your particular circumstance.
