Radiofrequency Ablation

Varicose veins are a surprisingly common issue. In fact, roughly three million cases of varicose veins are diagnosed annually in the U.S. alone. These enlarged and twisted veins that tend to form on the legs and feet are not only unsightly, they can also produce a noticeable amount of pain and discomfort.

Varicose veins can be a lifelong issue if left untreated, and finding an effective treatment for eliminating varicose veins can be very difficult. Thankfully, a state-of-the-art solution is now available.

At Beach Aesthetics in El Segundo, we have found radiofrequency ablation to be an incredibly effective treatment option for eliminating varicose veins. The treatment is only minimally invasive, safe, easy to perform, produces no discomfort or pain, and requires no downtime once completed.

How Does Radiofrequency Ablation Treat Varicose Veins?

This treatment uses a small catheter that emits radiofrequency energy. The catheter is inserted directly into the vein using ultrasound guidance for pinpoint accuracy. A local anesthetic is used to ensure the procedure is as comfortable as possible. The catheter directs radiofrequency energy into the vein walls.

The heat produced by the energy damages the vein walls, compromising the strength of the the vein walls. This causes them to slowly collapse, cutting the vein off from the blood supply. Over time, the vein is completely destroyed, and the remnants of the vein are slowly absorbed by the body.

Radiofrequency ablation can also be performed along with other vein treatments that we offer at our El Segundo office. Radiofrequency ablation can be performed in conjunction with microphlebectomies and/or sclerotherapy.

Radiofrequency ablation boasts an initial 98% to 100% success rate and a 95% to 100% success rate five years after initial treatments, making it a highly effective choice for treatment.

After Radiofrequency Ablation

Once the catheter is removed from the targeted vein, a bandage will be applied. You will be able to walk immediately following the conclusion of your treatment, and you can drive yourself home. While there is no required recovery period, you may want to rest for an hour or two afterwards, but you should be able to resume all your normal activities shortly after your procedure.

In order to promote strong and healthy blood flow in the treated areas of the leg, it is recommended that you wear compression garments for at least two weeks. Ultrasound testing is performed immediately following the procedure to determine if the treatment is successful.

Your results will not be immediate, but improvements can be be seen over the next few days. It can take up to two weeks to see the full results of your treatment.
